Yes, my children live in boxes

Today we built bear dens from boxes and then lived in them, at least during snack time. Makes me wonder why we buy toys at Christmas time when the kids are still amused with diaper boxes and blankets. We have been learning about wintertime in our little preschool and Lauren got to build a bear den with her little friends and hibernate. Now the children are hibernating by our Christmas tree. I remember all the fun my siblings and I used to have with cardboard boxes, especially the huge ones the refrigerators and dishwashers come in. Fun times.

Spencer and Lauren were so cute together playing. Lauren started building her den first and asked me to tape the boxes together for her. Spencer wanted to try to climb in so I got the Christmas tree box for him to use. They were both happy as bear cubs and played so nicely together. Some days are like that and my kids get along perfectly and I think to myself, “I could have 7 kids like my mom.” Then there are the other days like yesterday at breakfast. . .

I bought a kiabasa, polish sausage, at the grocery store to try out in some spaghetti sauce just to have something different. It was ok, but there was some left over so yesterday I sliced it up and cooked it for breakfast. The kids snarffed it down like candy. I mistakenly put the serving plate too close to Spencer’s breakfast plate and he assumed all the sausages left were his. Naturally he ate them. When Lauren realized that Spencer had consumed the rest of the sausage she was not happy and wanted retribution. I told her I had cooked the last of it and we’d have to get some more another time. That did not satisfy her sense of fairness nor her hunger. Spencer had the last piece of kiabasa between his teeth and before I could blink Lauren had ripped off the half that was sticking out of his mouth and ate it. Next time I will keep the serving plate on the counter.

I remember you all playing in big boxes too. I did the same when I was young. I love the sausage story. That one is great!

Boxes are the best thing to play in as a child! I remember quite well playing in boxes, or hiding anything similar. Too much fun, and what cute kids!
