Lauren wanted to look at my old journals since she has begun journal writing at school. When I opened my journal from my senior year of high school there was a piece of paper taped on the inside cover. Must be important to be there so I looked it over. Oh yeah, it is important.
Sometime during my senior year I made the standard 'what qualities I want in a future spouse list' and thankfully I saved them. I died laughing as I read them and then I laughed some more when I read them to Ben. Here is the list of most important traits in my 17/18 year old mind. I don't think I put them in any particular order.
Strong testimony
Holds the priesthood
Honors the priesthood
Successfully completed a mission
Respects himself
Respects me
Has a strong desire to live the gospel
Loves Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ
Patient
Humble
Enjoys service
Loves his family
Wants an eternal relationship
Temple Worthy
Sense of humor
Reasonably intelligent (I have no idea why I phrased it this way other than I didn't want to offend my future spouse if he was stupid, though I think the phrasing is rather offensive anyway)
Understanding
Faithful in church callings
In tune with the spirit
Likes to exercise
Well mannered
Compassionate
Studies scriptures
Loves children
Ben fits all of those except the 'humble' and 'likes to exercise' categories. Fortunately he is far more than 'reasonably intelligent' and we can all get a good laugh out of my list. He is surprised that I didn't include 'great job' and 'rugged good looks' on my list. Well, after all, I wasn't trying to be picky or anything.

Isn't that fun? I wrote one of those on my mission and had a similar experience recently. It made me grateful to have a husband who met all my qualifications. It sounds like you had reason to be grateful too. I guess Ben passes the "Reasonably intelligent" qualification too. Barely! :) JK. I imagine at the time you wrote that you weren't impressed with the boys in your social group and didn't have very high hopes in that area. Obviously you just didn't know the right people yet!
Yeah, Ben definately doesn't fit that humble catagory. (Obviosully with his rugged good look comment) I can picture him now with his doggy eyes saying "boo?" Ha! I guess you can't win them all. Ben's a good kid though
I've also heard a few people call Obama humble and sincere which also seems a bit of a stretch, but you have to admit, how can you be humble when everybody wants you? Isn't exercise for game playing couch potatoes why they created the Wii Fit?
I remember making those lists. I wonder if I still have mine, I know I saw it not too long ago. I think some of the things I had on my list were influenced by other young men in the stake. There are some odd specifics I remember writing. I will have to keep an eye out for my list.
